Founded in 2020 after winning the National and International James Dyson Award, MarinaTex is a
start-up developing a new material made from seafood waste and algae designed as a planet
conscious alternative to single-use plastic films for the packaging industry.


The translucent, flexible film material has a higher tensile strength than LDPE at the same thickness,
will compost in both home and industrial facilities and will not leach harmful toxins in-use or in
degradation. Additionally, by utilising waste and renewable feedstocks, the material can satisfy the
circularity requirements as a future-proof product
