SOiL was born out of our family managed, organic essential oil farming operation in Zululand, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. Starting off in 2001, with a few small tea tree plantations SOiL began growing, harvesting and distilling aromatic plants for their precious oils. Under the guidance of Grant McMurray, SOiL has grown significantly to partner with farmers and producers all over the world. Our own farms grow a variety of crops for essential oils, and our producer partners and organic certified suppliers provide the balance of our wide range products.
We ensure our oils are tested using gas chromatography to analyse their chemical constituents. This way, we can ensure that an oil conforms to the agreed international standard of quality for essential oils.
As an eco-ethical range certified under the Organic Standard through independent certifiers; ECOCERT France, SOiL was the first company in South Africa to sell a complete range of 100% certified organic essential oils, massage oil blends and body care products. ECOCERT inspect our farming and processing facilities annually to ensure we continue to meet their strict organic standard. SOiL has recently been endorsed by both SA Vegan Society and Beauty Without Cruelty.
SOiL maintains its strong social and ethical guidelines by closely managing the production, manufacturing, packaging and distribution of all SOiL branded products directly from our farm. This system encourages local economic growth, creates employment and utilises local, renewable resources while also cutting costs directly for the consumer. By owning most of that supply chain, we can control and understand what determines the quality of our products.
SOiL is registered as a Fair-Trade Company with ECOCERT Fair For Life and we are slowly developing Fair Trade Certified products, the sales of which will directly benefit and positively impact our workers. Our social responsibility program works hand in hand with our company values.
