Lancet Laboratories is one of the leading pathology laboratories in Africa providing vital diagnostic and monitoring pathology services in South Africa,

Botswana, DRC, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

We operate in the private healthcare environment and provide specialised pathology services for the corporate, insurance and industrial sectors. We offer an extensive range of pathology services, from sophisticated molecular and cytogenetic investigations to advanced chemical analyses.

From our modest beginnings in the 1950s, we have grown exponentially in capacity and in 2016, we conducted 3 million blood tests each month across the African continent.

Along with our established logistics network and experience working in the continent we offer the following:

  • Consistent quality from a SANAS accredited laboratory adhering to international criteria set out according to ISO Standard
  • A competitive pricing structure
  • Discounted pricing for referral tests
  • No transportation costs
  • Unmatched turnaround times

Our resources

To ensure diagnostic excellence, we continue to advance the technology in our resources.

The new fully automated Autolab track was launched to do chemistry and immunology testing providing shorter turnaround times, consolidated test menus across disciplines, reduced number of analysers, improved accuracy, validation and documentation of data as well as reducing reagent consumption and sample volumes. The track has successfully allowed the centralisation of tests from various areas passing on the beneifit to clients and patients.

Biochip technology in Allergy and Immunology – The lab acquired cutting edge technology that decreases the turnaround times dramatically for molecular based tests. The platform amplifies DNA directly from blood samples obviating the need for preparation of samples and extraction. This biochip technology is being applied to testing for autoimmune conditions specifically DQ2/DQ8, HLA B27, Cw3, HLA B57:01 – for IBD, rheumatology, psoriasis, Abacavir hypersensitivity respectively. We are investigating with the manufacturer HLA panels for the Lancet DGMC transplant unit collaboration which will dramatically decrease cross matching turnaround times to 6-8 hours versus 2-3 weeks on the current systems.
